Well, I woke up and used the commie for a while, to collect some items in RuneScape. Lol, gaming never ends. Then, 12pm, and I went to Bukit Timah shopping centre for a Robotics NXT competition. I know, why of all places a shopping centre?
So I went there, was early, and turns out Yi Yang was early too. The competition for for 2-people teams. Yi Yang constructs, I program. At least, that was the plan.
And so, we went to B2 to the competition site. And surprise, we had to register first, at this Jan Club or something. We asked for directions, and the announcer said 3rd or 4th storey. 0.o...we scanned the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th storeys, and still no Jan Club. Turns out that when we asked the information counter, it was at the 13th floor. -.-
So, took lift there, and big surprise, Jan Club was next to the lift. 0.o...we went in, registered, paid the entrance fee (wth?), and went down with Jasper for the competiton. Yes, Jasper was there, and he was one of the helpers, and the referee. 0.o we even took a pic with him. Yi Yang plans to do something evil related to the pic when Jasper goes to NS. 0.o
So, yeah, went there, and it was a Sumobot and SotF match. Sumobot = square area, push opponent bot out of field. SotF = bots start on opposite ends of the field, have to climb a set of stairs, and engage in a Sumobot match if both mange to reach the top. 6 teams, three junior teams, three senior teams. Junior meant help was provided. We were senior. 0.o
And, the stupidest thing about this competition was that only ABC Forward or Reverse programs were allowed, which meant I couldn't program. -.-...nevermind, I helped with construction though. Our bot pwned 1st prize. =)...and, it's highly bizzare. The six bots which participated:
Team 1, Standard NXT bot, but quite steady and strong. Difficulty climbing stairs though. Top prize for Junior level. 0.o
Team 2, highly bizzare, random, unreliable, but amazingly effective bot. Also the only bot to add a 'weapon', although the rotating...thing took up a motor, giving it 33.3% less power. It helped push bots away though. I mean, it beat Team 4, our team, and practically every team at least once. Programming an ABC Forward into their bot made them do a pivot turn, which actually threw our bots off the playing field. 0.o...2nd prize, Junior.
Team 3, Standard bot, but not so strong. Also difficulty climbing stairs. T1 VS T3 was kinda funny. 3rd prize, Junior level.
Team 4, Standard, but modified a little. They even added a ramp in front of their bot to disable our wheels. Our bot got caught on that. The ramp, in theory, disabled 33.3% of our motor power, pwning us. However, by some chance, they totally lifted our wheels up, disabling 100% power. Only Team 2 won against them for the 1st round. It turned sideways and threw the T4 bot out. 0.o...it kinda didn't do too well at SotF though. 2nd prize, Senior.
Team 5, my team. =)...Highly fragile and unreliable, but also quite flexible. And strong, given we use an additional motor, giving 50% more power. Teams , 4 and 6 did the same. 0.o...everytime we started the bot, we had to tilt it sideways to make up for some unreliability. Also, we reversed the back motors to change the centre of gravity, which allowed it to be one of the only bots to fully pass the SotF match. The other bot was Team 6. Champion overall, top Senior level. =)
Team 6, modified bot. Climb stairs extremely well, but difficulty pushing opponent bots. Hell, our bot rammed straight into theirs. 3rd prize, Senior level.
So, that's that. Fun day. LOL.
